Bursting crackers in Bengaluru: the 2026 timings
Deepavali falls on 8 November 2026. Here is what is actually permitted in Bengaluru and the rest of Karnataka, and where to check before you buy.
This page is a summary, not the law. The bursting window and the permitted items are re-notified every season by Bengaluru City Police, BBMP and the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board, and they can differ by district. Check the current 2026 notification before Deepavali.
The two-hour window
Bursting in Karnataka is normally notified for 8:00 to 10:00 PM on Deepavali. Outside those hours it is an offence, including on the days either side of Deepavali.
Green crackers only
Karnataka permits certified green crackers alone. Look for the CSIR-NEERI green logo and the QR code printed on the box, and keep the box until you have burst everything in it.
Silence zones
No bursting within 100 metres of a hospital, school, court or place of worship, at any hour. Many streets in Bengaluru sit inside one without a sign.
Your gated community
Most Bengaluru apartment associations make a Deepavali rule of their own: a marked spot in the compound, set hours, or nothing in the common areas. Check the association notice board before you place the order.
Karnataka allows a two-hour window, usually notified as 8:00 to 10:00 PM on Deepavali, permits certified green crackers only, and the notice is issued afresh before each Deepavali.
What to buy if you are in an apartment
Certified green, silent or low noise, and safe on a balcony or a shared terrace. 8 boxes from the list that meet all three.
Ordering in time
Parcels reach Bengaluru in 2 to 4 days from Sivakasi, and the transport lines are at their busiest in the final week. The last Deepavali order we can promise for Karnataka is 1 November. See crackers delivery in Bengaluru for how your parcel actually arrives. Crackers count as explosives in law, so they cannot travel on Namma Metro, on BMTC buses or with an ordinary courier.
Bengaluru cracker timings: questions people ask
What are the cracker timings in Bengaluru for Deepavali 2026?
Bursting is limited to a two-hour slot under the Supreme Court's direction, and Karnataka has notified it as 8:00 to 10:00 PM on Deepavali in recent years. Each season brings a fresh order, so check the 2026 notice before Deepavali on 8 November 2026.
Does Bengaluru allow only green crackers?
Yes, in recent seasons Karnataka has allowed certified green crackers only. Look for the CSIR-NEERI green mark and the QR code on the box; every box marked green on this site carries both. Check the current notice before you buy.
Can we burst crackers in our apartment complex?
Your association decides that, within the city's window. Many Bengaluru complexes pick one open spot and a fixed hour, and some keep the common areas free of crackers altogether. Read the notice first, then build your list around it.
Where is bursting not allowed at any hour?
In a silence zone: 100 metres around a hospital, nursing home, school, court or place of worship. Plenty of Bengaluru streets sit inside one with no board to tell you, so walk to an open ground if you are unsure.
What if someone bursts outside the permitted hours?
It is an offence under the Environment (Protection) Act and the Noise Pollution Rules, and the police respond to complaints over Deepavali. This page is not legal advice; the notice from Bengaluru City Police, BBMP and the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board is the authority.
Can crackers be carried on Namma Metro or a BMTC bus?
No. They are explosives in law, so they cannot go on Namma Metro, on BMTC buses or with an ordinary courier. That is why your order travels with a registered road transporter.
